David Eby is a Canadian lawyer and politician who is currently the Premier British Columbia having previously been Attorney General. He was first elected to the British Columbia Legislative Assembly in 2013 as a member of the New Democratic Party and has held a number of cabinet positions, including Minister of Attorney General and Minister of Civil Liberties. Prior to his political career, Eby was a human rights lawyer and executive director of the BC Civil Liberties Association.
David Eby is a Canadian politician who currently serves as the leader of the British Columbia New Democratic Party (BC NDP) and the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Vancouver-Point Grey.
Eby was first elected as an MLA in the 2013 provincial election and was re-elected in the 2017 and 2021 elections. He has served as the Opposition Critic for several portfolios, including housing, attorney general, and civil liberties.
In 2017, Eby was appointed as the Attorney General and Minister Responsible for Housing in the BC NDP government led by Premier John Horgan. During his time in the role, Eby implemented a number of measures to address the housing crisis in British Columbia, including increasing taxes on foreign buyers and implementing a speculation tax.
Eby was elected as the leader of the BC NDP on November 7, 2020, succeeding John Horgan as the leader of the party. He is the current Premier of British Columbia.
Eby is known for his work on housing affordability and civil liberties issues. He has also been a vocal advocate for electoral reform and has called for proportional representation in the provincial electoral system.
