The British Columbia provincial election in 2017 was held on May 9, 2017. The election was called by the incumbent Liberal Party Premier, Christy Clark, who had formed a majority government after the 2013 election. The election saw a high level of voter turnout, with approximately 61% of eligible voters casting a ballot.

The main issues in the 2017 election included healthcare, education, the economy, the environment, and housing affordability. The Liberal Party campaigned on its record in government, emphasizing its investments in infrastructure, job creation, and economic growth. The New Democratic Party (NDP) focused on social issues, promising to invest in healthcare, education, and affordable housing. The Green Party campaigned on its commitment to the environment, advocating for action on climate change and increased investments in renewable energy.

In the end, the election resulted in a hung parliament, with the Liberal Party winning 43 seats, the NDP winning 41 seats, and the Green Party winning 3 seats. After negotiations with the other parties, the NDP and Green Party formed a minority government, with the support of the Green Party. This marked the first time a Green Party had held the balance of power in a Canadian provincial legislature.

The NDP leader, John Horgan, became Premier of British Columbia with the support of the Green Party. The new government made several policy changes, including increasing the minimum wage, investing in affordable housing, and increasing funding for healthcare and education. The new government also launched a public inquiry into money laundering in the province, which had become a major issue during the previous Liberal government.
